The story I was told was that two brother’s came to the US from Germany. Years ago, I found an Ellis Island record that showed only one brother came over. THen I noticed that a few years later another record shows someone with the name Labert came over. Perhaps two came over, but it may be that they did not come at the same time. Also, it seems that one brother when towards Iowa/Illinois and the other stayed in the east. This would explain why there are two distinctive families in the US. I know that the Western family settled in Michigan and the other it appears, settled in Pennsylvania.
